Michael Hurst is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in various roles within nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Currently serving as a Senior Attorney at Indiana Legal Services, Inc. since September 2018, Michael previously held the position of Executive Director at Legacy House, where the focus was on trauma counseling and victim advocacy. Prior experience includes directing programs at the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention, and holding multiple legal and senior management positions within the State of Indiana and State of Illinois, including roles with the Indiana State Department of Health and the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. Michael's legal career began as an attorney at Pope & John, Ltd., specializing in healthcare and environmental litigation. Michael holds a JD from The John Marshall Law School and a BS in Public Affairs from Indiana University South Bend.

Indiana Legal Services (ILS) is a a nonprofit law firm that provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income people throughout the state of Indiana. ILS helps clients who are faced with legal problems that harm their ability to have such basics as food, shelter, income, medical care or personal safety. Most of the cases ILS handles are cases such as family law where there is domestic violence, housing, consumer law, access to health care, and access to government benefits. ILS does not handle any criminal matters.
