Karl Bilimoria, MD MS has an extensive and diverse work experience in the field of surgery and healthcare quality improvement. Karl is currently the Chair of the Department of Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine and the Director of the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center (SOQIC), where they lead a team in conducting transformative research in various areas including surgical outcomes, medical education, and healthcare policy. Prior to this, they served as the System Vice President for Surgical Quality at Indiana University Health.

Before their current roles, Dr. Bilimoria was associated with Northwestern Medicine for several years. Karl founded and directed the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center (SOQIC), building it into a nationally renowned research center. Karl also held various health system executive roles and served as the J.B. Murphy Endowed Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. During this time, they established a clinical practice in sarcoma and melanoma and played a key role in improving surgical quality system-wide.

Dr. Bilimoria is also known for their contributions outside of their clinical and academic positions. Karl Bilimoria, MD MS has a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology from Northwestern University, obtained in 1998. Karl then pursued their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at Indiana University School of Medicine, completed in 2003. Following this, they earned a Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Investigation from Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine in 2008. Currently, between 2021 and 2022, they are undertaking Executive Courses at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management.
