Before their director roles, they worked as a Research Engineer at Renewable Energy Institute International from 2006 to 2014. Matthew'searlier experiences include being a Graduate Researcher at UC Davis and a Co-Founder and Director of Development at Hyphase Energy. Matthew began their career as a Product Design Engineer at Foarm, Inc. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics at Westmont College, graduating in 1999. Building on their undergraduate degree, Matthew enrolled at the University of California, Davis from 2002 to 2005, pursuing a Master's degree in Transportation Technology and Policy. Matthew then continued their education at the same institution and earned a Ph.D. in the same field from 2005 to 2008. Additionally, in 2006 and 2007, Matthew obtained a Business Certificate specializing in Technology Management from the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis.
