Gary Flanagan, Deputy Director

Gary Flanagan has over fifteen years experience working in education reform. Gary began their career as a Senior Officer for Birmingham City Council, where they were responsible for managing the transformation of education for a £1bn capital investment programme. In 2008, they became the Education/ Programme Director for Partnerships for Schools, where they oversaw the delivery of all 'pre-remit activity' on the national BSF Programme. In 2011, Gary took on the role of Deputy Director for Technical Education Reform Operations at the Department for Education. In this role, they had operational oversight of the programme management and implementation of technical education reforms, including T levels. In 2020, Gary became the Deputy Director for Assurances and Systems Learning at Infrastructure and Projects Authority.

Gary Flanagan's educational career includes a PGCE in English from the University of Warwick, as well as a degree in English from the University of Wolverhampton. Gary also attended Archbishop Grimshaw School.

Gary Flanagan, Deputy Director works with and Simon Lawrence - Deputy Director, Head of Project Futures. Their manager is Helen Campbell, Director of Strategy, Performance and Assurance.
