Lukas DeSimone

Application Engineer at Inkbit

Lukas DeSimone has a diverse range of work experience in engineering roles. Lukas began their career as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Formlabs, where they developed, tested, and designed components for SLA 3D printers. Lukas also played a significant role in a project to develop a line calibration tool.

Following this, Lukas worked at ATI as a member of the HMC Engineering Clinic Team. Here, they were responsible for designing, simulating, and building an inert gas particle classifier for the separation of metal 3D printing powders. Lukas utilized iterative fluids simulation in Solidworks to create successive geometries.

Next, Lukas joined Turner Laser Systems as an Integration Engineer, where they collaborated in a small team to design and construct custom laser manufacturing tools. Lukas took the lead on large-scale Solidworks and Fusion 360 assemblies, selecting appropriate mechanical and electrical components. Lukas gained experience in working with high-performance galvanometers and ultrafast lasers.

At WePackItAll, Lukas contributed as a member of the HMC Engineering Clinic Team once again. During their time here, they designed and implemented a fully automated secondary packing process for various types of stick packs. Lukas developed prototypes in Solidworks and conducted in-situ testing on the manufacturing line.

Most recently, Lukas worked at Inkbit as both a Process Engineer and an Application Engineer. As a Process Engineer, they played a vital role in tuning the print-process of Inkbit's first production system. Lukas managed a team of factory technicians, oversaw customer orders, assessed necessary mechanical, software, and material changes, and acted as a main point of contact. As an Application Engineer, they were responsible for managing select customer relationships, intake of customer parts, cost estimation, and developing a design process for multimaterial parts using VCJ.

Throughout their work experiences, Lukas has demonstrated proficiency in various tools and software, including Solidworks, Fusion 360, and printer usage tests. Lukas has also gained expertise in areas such as 3D printing, laser manufacturing, and automation.

Lukas DeSimone attended Harvey Mudd College from 2016 to 2020, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
