InSight Biodiversity is a British Columbia–based consulting team focused on adapting Savimbo’s Indicator Species Biodiversity Methodology (ISBM) into locally grounded, community-led pilot projects with Indigenous Communities in BC.

We are not affiliated with Savimbo, nor do we receive any financial incentives from them or any future biodiversity credit sales. 

Our role is independent: to work alongside Indigenous Communities and First Nations to thoughtfully interpret and adapt the ISBM framework in ways that reflect local ecological realities, governance structures, and knowledge systems.

We believe the methodology’s integration of Indigenous knowledge and earth systems science represents one promising pathway among many to grow the nature finance market and improve biodiversity conservation. By co-developing pilot projects with Indigenous partners, we aim to refine this model from the ground up, ensuring it evolves through lived experience, community leadership, and practical implementation rather than top-down standardization.

As a non-Indigenous team, we are intentional about not replicating extractive or prescriptive approaches. We do not impose “off-the-shelf” solutions. We work by invitation, through co-design, and with full respect for Indigenous governance, Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), and data sovereignty.

We are committed to our socio-ecological objectives, including improving environmental conservation and supporting Indigenous governance.
