Brendan Smith is an experienced Education & Public Engagement Officer at the INSIGHT Centre for Data Analytics at NUI Galway since October 2013, contributing to one of Europe's largest data analytics research organizations. As the Museum Curator at the Computer & Communications Museum of Ireland since 2010, Brendan enhances public understanding of historical advancements in communication and computing. Brendan also served as Lead Mentor for Africa Code Week from June 2015 to November 2023, focusing on empowering youth through digital literacy initiatives across Africa. Co-founding Coderdojo Galway city, Brendan helped establish a prominent coding club for young people and mentored during Refugee Code Week, providing crucial coding education to young refugees. Previous roles include Education/Community Outreach Officer at DERI, Science & Technology Education Consultant at Galway Education Centre, and former Chairperson of the Galway City Community Forum, showcasing a long-standing commitment to education and community engagement. Education includes degrees from University of Galway and Patrician High School in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.
