Radina Kostadinova, PhD

Deputy VP Liver Disease Discovery, Senior Scientist at InSphero

Radina Kostadinova, PhD has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biomedical research and toxicology. Radina is currently working at InSphero as the Deputy VP Liver Disease Discovery and Senior Scientist, a position they have held since July 2021. Additionally, they serve as the Product Manager for Liver Microtissues, a role they have held since November 2016.

Prior to joining InSphero, Radina worked at Philip Morris International from July 2012 to March 2015. In this role as a Research Project Leader and Study Director for Cellular Toxicogenomics, they were responsible for managing study teams and projects. Radina also developed and established in vitro toxicology studies using cellular and molecular biology assays, as well as implemented 3D organotypic respiratory tissue culture models.

Before their time at Philip Morris International, Radina worked at Hoffmann-La-Roche as a Postdoctoral Fellow from October 2009 to June 2012. In this role, they managed projects and facilitated knowledge transfer. Radina focused on the validation, implementation, and development of liver 3D organotypic co-culture for improved prediction of drug-induced hepatotoxicity. Radina also conducted in vitro toxicology studies using cellular and molecular biology assays.

Radina's work experience also includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Zurich-Irchel from February 2008 to February 2009. Their responsibilities included project development, knowledge transfer, supervision, and teaching of PhD and Master students. Radina investigated the role of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP-1) in the development of insulin resistance/obesity in mice and human adipocytes.

Prior to their position at the University of Zurich-Irchel, Radina was a Postdoctoral Fellow at UNIL - Université de Lausanne from May 2005 to January 2008. In this role, they focused on project development, knowledge transfer, and supervision and teaching of PhD and Master students. Radina investigated the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor beta (PPARbeta) in the development of liver fibrosis and the activation of inflammatory pathways in mice and human hepatic stellate cells LX-2.

Radina's educational background includes a PhD from Universität Bern, completed between 2000 and 2005. Overall, Radina Kostadinova, PhD has a strong background in biomedical research and toxicology, with expertise in in vitro cellular and molecular biology assays, organotypic tissue cultures, and the investigation of various factors in the development of liver diseases.

Radina Kostadinova, PhD, completed their education starting in 1991 at the University of Sofia - St. Kliment Ohridski, Bulgaria. Radina pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biochemistry, which they successfully completed in 1997.

Following this, Radina continued their academic journey at the University of Bern, Switzerland, from 2000 to 2005. During this period, they undertook studies in Molecular Biology, ultimately earning their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.
