Elvira Fernández is an accomplished medical professional and educator with extensive experience in nephrology and medical education. Currently serving as the Directora at the Institut de Recerca Biomédica de Lleida since December 2015, Elvira Fernández also holds the position of Secretaria de la junta at the Sociedad Española de Nefrología since October 2013. As a Professor at the Universitat de Lleida since September 1992, Elvira Fernández leads expert courses in subclinical atheromatosis diagnosis and oversees a Master's program on atherothrombotic disease and non-invasive diagnostic techniques. Previously, Elvira Fernández was the Jefe de Servicio de Nefrología at Hospital Universitario Arnau de Vilanova de Lleida from March 1999 to January 2016. Educational background includes a Doctorate in Medicine from Universidad de Lleida, a specialization in Nephrology from Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, and a degree in Medicine and Surgery from Universidad de Cádiz.

The IRBLleida is a research institute that was founded as the result of a partnership between the Universitat de Lleida and Institut Català de la Salut. As a joint body between the University and the public healthsystem, the IRBLleida is committed to advancing biomedical research inorder to improve the average health of the population and to facilitate optimal healt care activity and coverage. The interaction between professionals from both institutions should createsynergies that facilitate this task. The research groups at IRBLleida originaly come from the Facultat de Medicina of UdL, the Hospital Universitari Arnau de Vilanova, the Hospital Universitari de Santa Maria and the Departament de Salut of the Generalitat de Catalunya at Lleida.
