Thierry de Montbrial

Thierry de Montbrial, founder and president of the Institut français des relations internationales (Ifri) since 1979, has established the organization as one of the world's most influential think tanks. Additionally, Montbrial founded and presides over the World Policy Conference, which aims to enhance global governance through inclusive dialogue among leaders across various sectors. Montbrial's academic contributions include roles as a professor at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers and the École Polytechnique, where management and applied mathematics departments were chaired. Notably, Montbrial also held significant positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Commissariat Général du Plan. A distinguished academic, Montbrial earned a PhD in mathematical economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds degrees from Mines Paris - PSL and École Polytechnique.
