Georgios Kalantzopoulos has a diverse work experience in the field of chemistry and materials science. Georgios currently serves as the Department Head at the Institute for Energy Technology, where they manage and expands the Department's R&D, engineering, and analytical service portfolio. Georgios is also responsible for the Department's budget and actively engages in employee professional development.
Prior to their current role, Georgios worked at the University of Oslo as a Senior Engineer/Scientific Lab Manager in the Catalysis Section. In this position, they managed the Catalytic Test Labs and led a team of 15 Instrument Specialists and Engineers. Georgios also served as the Leading Safety Officer for the Chemistry Department and the Main Safety Officer for the Sector for Catalysis. Additionally, they were a Work Package Leader in the NFR Project and an Instrument Scientist, specializing in GC, GCMS, LCMS, catalytic test rigs, and sorption assessment instruments. Georgios made significant improvements to the catalytic testing labs, enhancing user efficiency and satisfaction.
Before joining the University of Oslo, Georgios worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher/Project Manager at the Chemistry Department, Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology. Here, they coordinated a EU Joint Research Project and conducted studies on microporous zeolites deactivation during the methanol-to-olefins process. Georgios also developed hydrations setups for in-situ XRD and ND measurements and contributed to the development of next-generation hydrotalcites.
Georgios also has experience working as a Researcher/Lab Responsible at the Institute for Energy Technology and a Researcher/Lab Responsible at the University of Calabria. Georgios worked on methane storage on advanced porous materials and supervised M.Sc and Ph.D. students during their time at the University of Calabria. Georgios also served as a Teaching Assistant during their Ph.D. studies.
Additionally, Georgios has been a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research.

Georgios Kalantzopoulos received their Bachelor and Master's degrees in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Ioannina, Greece, where they studied from 2000 to 2006.
