Sylvia Mishra has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of nuclear policy and international affairs. Sylvia is currently serving as the Deputy Director of Nuclear Policy, Innovation & Catastrophic Risk at the Institute for Security and Technology since January 2024. Prior to this role, they worked as a Senior Associate for Nuclear Policy at the same institute from August 2022 to January 2024.
In 2023, they were a Research Fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center, focusing on their research interests. Sylvia also worked as a Policy Advisor at the European Leadership Network from November 2020 onwards. Before that, they held the position of Janne Nolan Nuclear Security Fellow at the Truman Center for National Policy from January 2022 to August 2022.
In 2018, Sylvia held the position of Scoville Fellow at the Nuclear Threat Initiative. Sylvia started their professional journey as a Jr. Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation in 2015, where they worked on India-United States relations and U.S. policy in Asia until 2018.
Sylvia also gained experience as a Jr. Consultant at ICRIER Wadhwani Chair in India US Policy Studies from August 2013 to December 2014. Additionally, they worked as an Analyst in Defence and Homeland Security at Orkash from November 2012 to July 2013.
Early in their career, they served as a Research Fellow and Editor of International Affairs Watch at Global India Foundation and as a Global Analyst at Gold Mercury International in 2011.
Sylvia Mishra has a Master's degree in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, which they obtained in 2017. Prior to that, they completed an MSc in International Relations History at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 2010 to 2011. Their undergraduate degree is a BA in Political Science Honours from Delhi University, which they earned from 2007 to 2010. In addition to their degrees, they obtained certifications in various fields, including the India-US Public Interest Technology Fellowship from New America in 2019 and International Safeguards Policy and Information Analysis from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 2017.
