Ian Wexler

Ian Wexler serves as the Director at the Institute for Security Governance since September 2023. Prior to this role, Wexler was the Director of the Defense Institute of International Legal Studies from July 2019 to June 2023, where leadership focused on security cooperation, legal engagement, and human rights training for international defense personnel. Wexler's extensive legal career includes positions as Senior National Security Law Attorney at NORAD & US Northern Command, Chief Legal Counsel at Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay, and Chief Legal Counsel to Commander Submarine Forces, US Pacific Fleet. Previous experience also encompasses roles as Director of the Law and Order Task Force in Iraq and Senior Prosecutor at Region Legal Service Office Southeast. Wexler holds advanced degrees in law and national security policy, including a Master of Laws from The Judge Advocate General School and a Master of Arts from the U.S. Naval War College.
