Bill McDowell has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several years. Bill has held various roles in different companies. In their most recent position as the Editor-in-Chief and Vice President, Content Strategy at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) since October 2020, Bill redesigned the content strategy for IFT's flagship publication, Food Technology. Bill also led a sales and marketing initiative to promote the publication's new brand identity and implemented an audience development strategy. Prior to their role at IFT, Bill worked at MTG Media Group for 19 years, where they served as the Vice President, Editorial Director. In this role, they managed content strategy and editorial operations for the company, overseeing a team of editors and graphic designers. Bill was involved in strategic planning and managed various projects. Before MTG Media Group, Bill worked at VerticalNet as the Editorial Director for the Food & Beverage Retail Group, responsible for determining the content strategy for five B2B websites. Bill also has experience as an Editor at Cahners Business Information and as a Food & Beverage Reporter at Ad Age.

Bill McDowell has a Master of Science degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. Bill also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the same university.
