Nico Fournier is a highly experienced volcanologist, currently serving as a Senior Volcanologist, Team Leader, and Head of the Department at GNS Science since May 2009. Concurrently, Nico holds the position of Group Volunteer Support Specialist at Land Search and Rescue New Zealand since March 2024 and is an active member of the New Zealand Emergency Management Assistance Team (NZEMAT) since May 2021. Additionally, since June 2018, Nico has been working as a medic and instructor at Peak Safety. Previous roles include Research Fellow at the Seismic Research Centre, University of the West Indies, and Director at Montserrat Volcano Observatory. Nico's academic credentials include a PhD in Volcanology from The Open University and multiple degrees in Earth Sciences and Volcanology from Université Blaise Pascal.
