Julian Gore-Booth is an experienced leader in the fields of wine, healthcare, and humanitarian aid. Currently serving as the Executive Director of the Institute of Masters of Wine, Julian fosters excellence and interaction within the global wine community. Previous roles include Council Member of The G4 Alliance, advocating for neglected surgical patients, and Chief Executive Officer of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists, where Julian focused on patient care and access to safe anesthesia. Julian has held significant positions in various organizations, including Trustee at Maritime Archaeology Sea Trust, interim roles as Director of International for Leonard Cheshire Disability and Chief Executive of STARS Foundation, and senior management roles in the International Federation of the Red Cross. Julian's educational background includes a Master's Degree in Geography from The University of Edinburgh.

Institute of Masters of Wine

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) is a membership organisation with an exceptional international reputation. For 70 years, its members – the Masters of Wine (MWs) – have been at the forefront of leadership and expertise in the world of wine. The IMW’s mission is to promote excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs prove their comprehensive understanding of wine by passing the MW exam, recognised worldwide for its rigour and exacting standards. In addition to passing the exam, members must sign the code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. Today, there are 421 Masters of Wine based in 30 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, sommeliers, buyers, journalists, shippers, consultants, academics, educators and more. There are 367 students from 40 countries on the 2023-24 MW study programme.
