Matthew Birnbaum

Matthew Birnbaum is an experienced professional in research and evaluation, currently serving as the Director of the Office of Research and Evaluation at the Institute of Museum and Library Services since June 2022. Previously, Matthew's roles at the same organization included Supervising Social Scientist and Senior Evaluation Officer. Additionally, Matthew worked as an Evaluation Officer at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and as an Assistant Professor in a graduate public administration program at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Early in Matthew's career, experience as a Union Organizer for AFM, Local 802 involved organizing various musicians in New York City. Matthew holds a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Public Administration from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
