Michael Ater

Michael Ater is a highly experienced design professional with a strong background in visual design and brand development. Currently serving as Design Director at Instrument since October 2019, Michael has progressed through various roles including Associate Design Director and Senior Designer. Prior experience includes leading visual design instruction at General Assembly and working as a designer at several notable firms such as Character and MM_SF, where responsibilities encompassed brand identity and interactive experience design. Michael's career also features significant editorial design work as Art Director at Daily Vidette, alongside several graphic design roles early in the career, including internships and positions focused on client-driven brand development. Michael holds a BA in Graphic Design from Illinois State University and further training from General Assembly.
