David Hamby, Ph.D.

David Hamby, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience in various industries. David began their career at Halliburton as a Field Engineer, where they gained valuable knowledge and skills in evaluating Oil & Gas drilling ROI. David then worked at Electric Submersible Pumps, LLC as a Mechanical Engineer, focusing on manufacturing product design and continuous improvement. During this time, they directed a cost-saving project and submitted a patent application for a specialized pump intake. David then pursued a post-doctorate collaboration with Los Alamos National Laboratory as a research scientist at Oklahoma State University, where they published findings on semiconductors.

In 2006, David joined OSRAM as an R&D Staff Mechanical Engineer and Digital Product Owner. David played a key role in the company's entry into the indoor farming industry and led the development of the world's first tunable LED horticulture lighting system. David also worked as an R&D Principal Engineer, spearheading multiyear R&D projects and developing industry-standard LED module prototypes.

In 2021, David joined Fluence Bioengineering as a Product Manager, where they supported Osram's deep-dive into the horticulture market. David directed the development of the inter-canopy lighting product, VYNE, from concept to prototype and manufacturing build.

David took a voluntary sabbatical in 2021 to focus on self-instructed professional development in data visualization and digital models. David acquired skills in web development, Tableau, and 3D modeling suites.

David is currently working at INTEGRA Biosciences as an R&D Engineer, starting in 2023.

David Hamby, Ph.D. holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University, which they obtained from 1997 to 2003. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech between 1991 and 1993. Their undergraduate education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University, which they completed from 1987 to 1991. In addition to their academic qualifications, Dr. Hamby has also obtained several certifications in various subjects, including PowerPoint Data Visualization, Following the Digital Thread, Introduction to Digital Twins, and many others. These certifications were obtained from LinkedIn, with the most recent ones acquired between October and December 2022.
