Brendan Shanahan

Brendan Shanahan is a Senior Software Engineer at Intellia Therapeutics, Inc., leading the Data Engineering team since March 2023. Previously, Brendan served as a Principal Research Associate at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where responsibilities included migrating computational genomics pipelines to the cloud and developing data models for genomic tools. Brendan also held the position of Senior Research Associate, focusing on tools for gene editing data analysis. Prior experience includes a Graduate Research Assistant role at the College of Natural Sciences at UMass Amherst, where Brendan helped establish a high-performance computing cluster, and a Software Engineer Intern position at GreatHorn. Brendan's earlier career features research in photoacoustic imaging at the University of Massachusetts Boston and senior technical roles at Draper. Brendan holds a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a minor in Mathematics.
