Hugh McNamara has a varied work experience. Hugh began their career in 2007 as a Lecturer at the University College Cork, Ireland (UCC). In 2010, they became a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Maths. From 2011 to 2014, Hugh was a James Martin Fellow at the University of Oxford, where they conducted research on stochastic modelling and computing for weather and climate prediction. Hugh was also the main organiser of an international conference in Oxford in 2013, a guest editor of a themed issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A, and an invited speaker at the ACM Frontiers of Computing conference in Ischia, Italy. In 2014, Hugh joined Public Health England as a Higher Radiation Protection Scientist, where they developed skills in GIS and Python development and Microsoft Office (including VBA). Since 2015, Hugh has been working at IntelliSense.io, first as Co-Technology Director and then as Data Science Team Lead and R&D Engineer. In these roles, they have been responsible for building predictive models of processes and machinery, and developing an Internet of Things platform for use in industrial settings.
Hugh McNamara obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics and Applied Maths (Joint Honours) from University College Cork between 2000 and 2004. Hugh then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Mathematics at the same institution, which they completed in 2008.
