Hernan Cortez

Head, U.s. Key Accounts, Gastroenterology And Hepatology at Intercept Pharmaceuticals

Hernan Cortez, MBA has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Hernan has held various leadership and management roles in the pharmaceutical industry.

From 2019 to present, Cortez worked at Intercept Pharmaceuticals as the Head of U.S. Key Accounts for Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Their responsibilities included leading and developing a team, executing market strategies, and collaborating with key stakeholders to improve patient outcomes.

Prior to this, Cortez served as the Regional Business Director at Intercept Pharmaceuticals from 2019 to 2021. In this role, they were responsible for leading a sales team, maximizing commercial potential, and ensuring sales performance exceeded expectations.

From 2016 to 2019, Cortez worked at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals as the National Business Director for Sales in Rheumatology. Hernan led a field and leadership sales team, collaborated with Sanofi counterparts, and ensured sales performance met forecasts.

Before joining Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Cortez held a role at Novartis from 2014 to 2016 as the AD of Regional Strategy & Accounts for Rheumatology & Dermatology. Hernan played a key role in the successful launch of Cosentyx in the Southeast region and worked closely with various departments during pre and post-launch phases.

Cortez has also worked at Amgen, Critical Therapeutics, AstraZeneca, TAP Pharmaceuticals, and served as a Captain in the US Army.

Throughout their career, Cortez has demonstrated strong leadership, strategic planning, and sales management skills. Hernan has a track record of achieving results, building strong relationships with key opinion leaders, and driving business growth.

Hernan Cortez obtained their MBA in Business Administration and Management, General from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in 1998. Prior to this, they attended San Francisco State University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in International Relations and Affairs.
