Brian McDonnell has extensive work experience in the technology industry. Brian is currently working at Intercom as the Director of Engineering since March 2023. Before this, they served as the Group Engineering Manager - Messenger & Mobile from July 2021 to April 2023 and as a Senior Engineering Manager from July 2020 to June 2021 at Intercom. In 2020, Brian also worked as a Consultant Engineer at Workhuman for a short period from March to May.

Prior to their roles at Intercom and Workhuman, Brian was the Engineering Manager at Stripe from August 2018 to December 2019. Brian was responsible for building a Global EMEA team and expanding Stripe's presence across Europe. During their tenure, the Global EMEA team successfully launched Stripe in 8 EMEA countries and developed support for major European payment methods.

Before joining Stripe, Brian co-founded PageFair in 2013 and served as the Co-founder and CTO until June 2018. At PageFair, they played a key role in product development, strategy, and operations, managing supply-side and demand-side engineering teams. Brian helped build a sustainable advertising ecosystem that supported publishers and respected user privacy.

In 2008, Brian co-founded Arcadia Online Games (Utopia), where they operated the world's longest-running real-time strategy game. The company was later acquired in 2017. Additionally, they co-founded Scale Front Ltd. in 2011, a startup lab that aimed to identify strong startup opportunities. PageFair was spun out of this lab.

Brian's earlier experiences include working as the Acting CTO at Digit Game Studios, where they built the engineering function and developed the flagship title "Kings of the Realm", and as the Co-founder and CTO at Front Square.

Prior to their entrepreneurial ventures, they served as the Head of Development at Jolt Online Gaming, where they were responsible for building the engineering function and executing the roadmap of web games. Brian also worked as a Software Consultant at Merrill Lynch, where they developed a high-performance margining system for risk management calculations and improved the performance and data quality of multiple systems.

Brian McDonnell attended Trinity College Dublin from 1996 to 2000, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Engineering.
