Oliver Geden

Oliver Geden serves as the Head of Research Cluster Climate Policy and Politics and as a Senior Fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) since October 2006. Geden is also the Vice-Chair of Working Group III for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has contributed significantly as a Lead Author for the AR6 Working Group III Report and the AR6 Synthesis Report. Additionally, Geden holds the position of Associate Fellow at the University of Oxford, alongside fellowship roles at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. Previous experience includes visiting research positions at prominent institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Policy Advisor role at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Germany. Geden obtained a Ph.D. from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin between 2003 and 2006.
