Hannah Clayson Smith currently serves as the Associate Director and National Coordinator of Religious Freedom Alliances at the International Center for Law and Religion Studies since February 2023 and as an Attorney At Law at Schaerr | Jaffe LLP since December 2019. Previously, Hannah held the position of Senior Counsel at Becket from 2007 to 2017, contributing to four Supreme Court victories and gaining recognition as a legal spokeswoman and author on religious liberty. Early career experiences include prestigious law clerk roles with Supreme Court Justices Samuel A. Alito, Jr. and Clarence Thomas, as well as positions at Williams & Connolly LLP and Sidley Austin LLP. Hannah holds an AB from Princeton University and a Juris Doctor from BYU Law School.

It is the Mission of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University to help secure the blessings of freedom of religion and belief for all people by expanding, deepening, and disseminating knowledge and expertise regarding the interrelationship of law and religion; facilitating the growth of networks of scholars, experts, and policy makers involved in the field of religion and law; and contributing to law reform processes and broader implementation of principles of religious freedom worldwide.
