Mariana has a bachelor's in Animal Science (1998) and a Master's in Agricultural Economics (2001), both at the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil. She has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Management (2011), from Lincoln University, New Zealand.
Since 2001, Mariana has been working for the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, Embrapa, in its Beef Cattle facility. She was also a Research assistant between 2007-2008 at the Agribusiness and Economics Research Unit (AERU), at Lincoln University. Her field of interest is Beef Cattle systems and production costs, integrated farming systems (Livestock-crops-forestry) technology adoption, and its impacts. Mariana is the representative of Latin America in the IFMA Council and has a seat as a counselor at the Management Council for Environmental Protected Areas of Campo Grande, Brazil.
She is a reviewer for several international journals and funding agencies.
