Marc de Sousa-Shields

Marc de Sousa-Shields serves as the Country Director for India and Head of the Multi Country Office at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a role commenced in September 2020, where responsibilities include overseeing a USD 750 million investment portfolio focused on enhancing the sustainability of smallholder farmers and food systems across India and neighboring countries. Prior to this position, Marc held the title of Lead Technical Specialist in Rural Finance and Markets at IFAD and was Managing Partner of ES Global, engaging in strategic planning, investment initiatives, and research on business and sustainability topics. Marc's earlier career includes serving as a member of the Steering Committee for the International Working Group of the Social Investment Forum (2007-2010) and co-founding the Social Investment Organization in Canada, acting as Executive Director from 1989 to 1996, significantly influencing the social investment landscape. Marc is academically grounded with a Master's degree in Economic Geography from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor's degree from The University of British Columbia.
