Simon Langan is a distinguished researcher with extensive experience in water management and agricultural productivity. Currently serving as Guest Senior Research Scholar and Director of the Water Programme at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) since May 2016, Simon also held the position of Director of Water Data Science and Digital Innovations and Sri Lanka Country Manager at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) from May 2019 to October 2023. Prior to this, Simon was Principal Researcher and Head of Office at IWMI from August 2011 to April 2016, focusing on the integration of biophysical and socioeconomic factors to enhance agricultural practices in Africa through rainwater management and small-scale irrigation. Simon's career began at the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute as Principal Scientist from 1991 to 2011 and included a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Imperial College London. Simon holds a Ph.D. in water quality and land use from the University of St Andrews and a BSc. in Geology and Geography from The University of Manchester.
