Ilya Stepanov is an experienced economist specializing in climate macroeconomics, currently working at the International Monetary Fund since June 2023. Previously, Ilya held positions at HSE University from January 2014 to June 2023, including Deputy Head of the Laboratory for Climate Change Economics, where management of multiple applied research projects for international organizations and state agencies was achieved, resulting in over 30 analytical reports. Ilya contributed to the establishment of the laboratory and launched the first MA program in Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development in Russia. Other notable roles include postdoctoral research at Ben-Gurion University, consultancy work for the World Bank, and visiting research positions at prominent institutions such as Harvard University and Universiteit Gent. Ilya holds a PhD in Economics from the Higher School of Economics and additional master's degrees from institutions in both Russia and Norway.
