Nikolay Gueorguiev

Nikolay Gueorguiev currently serves as the Assistant Director in the Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund since October 2022. Prior to this role, Nikolay held several positions at the IMF including Advisor in the European Department from August 2001 to March 2018, where responsibilities included serving as mission chief for Ukraine, Austria, and Slovenia. Additionally, Nikolay was Deputy Division Chief and mission chief for Moldova and Ukraine, as well as a Senior Economist focused on Romania, Croatia, and South Africa. Before joining the IMF, Nikolay was Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Finance in Bulgaria from February 2000 to July 2001, overseeing tax policy and administration among other duties. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland, obtained between 1993 and 1998.
