Rodrigo Buenaventura

Rodrigo Buenaventura currently serves as Secretary General at the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) since January 2025. Prior to this role, Rodrigo held several significant positions at the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), including Chairman and Director General of Markets from March 2017 to December 2024, with a focus on the policy and supervision of Spain's primary and secondary financial markets. Additionally, Rodrigo was Head of Markets at the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) from September 2011 to March 2017 and held multiple roles at CNMV from January 2005 to August 2011, including Head of Secondary Markets and Head of International Affairs. Early career experience included positions as CEO at AFI Consultores de las Administraciones Publicas SA (2000 - 2004) and as a Partner and Markets Analyst at Analistas Financieros Internacionales (1993 - 2000). Rodrigo holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (1986 - 1991) and has a foundational education from Instituto Fortuny and Colegio San Patricio.
