Miguel Alcaine has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations and roles. Miguel has worked for the International Telecommunication Union as the Head Area Office in Honduras, where they promoted telecommunications development and its use to advance human development. Miguel also worked for UNCTAD as a Consultant to the Commission of Science and Technology for Development, where they discovered, designed, and proposed ways to increase the impact of the commission's work. Miguel Alcaine has also held positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, serving as the Ambassador Representative Deputy to the United Nations in Geneva and later as the Consul General and Advisor in Geneva. Miguel has also worked at the United Nations IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) as the GRULAC Regional Coordinator. In addition, Miguel Alcaine has experience in marketing management, information technology consulting, and database support. Miguel has a background in programming and analysis, and has worked on various projects related to the information technology sector.

Miguel Alcaine obtained a Master of Science degree in Management from Purdue University in 1994. Prior to that, they completed their MSC degree in Management Information Systems, General from the Universidad Politécnica de San Salvador between 1983 and 1988.
