Mark Smith serves as the Director General of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) since April 2018, overseeing organizational performance, business strategy, financial and risk management, and corporate governance. Under Mark's leadership, the IWMI Strategy 2019-2023 was implemented, enhancing staff performance and aligning programs with sustainable development goals. Prior roles include Director of the Global Water Programme at IUCN, where Mark led global initiatives on water and ecosystems, and served as a Policy Advisor at Practical Action focused on climate change and poverty reduction. Mark has held positions on various boards, including the World Water Council, and has extensive experience in research and policy analysis within the field of water resource management, supported by a Ph.D. in Ecology and Resource Management from The University of Edinburgh.
