Security Consultant at IOActive

Sean Rivera has a diverse background in the field of security and research. Sean is currently working as a Security Consultant at IOActive, Inc. starting in 2022. Prior to that, Sean worked at the University of Luxembourg from 2018 to 2022, first as a Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in embedded security research for ARM chip and robotic system security. Sean'sresearch focused on areas such as TEE reliability, Cortex-M security, and FPGA development. Before that, they were a Doctoral Student at the University of Luxembourg, conducting research on systems security for robots, including topics like ROS package security, fuzzy algorithms for robotic security, and deep learning system design for security.

Sean's work experience also includes being a Graduate Student Researcher at CU Boulder from 2015 to 2018, a Research Assistant at Research Under Prof. Akos from 2012 to 2018, and an Engineer 1 at Echostar in 2014. Sean also had multiple Technical Summer roles at MITRE from 2011 to 2014.

In addition to their professional experience, Sean served as the Lead Systems Engineer at Colorado Springs Space Grant in 2011, where they led a team of engineering students in developing a high altitude observation satellite. Sean was also a Team Lead at FIRST, Team 662, Rocky Mountain Robotics.

From 2018 to 2021, Sean attended the University of Luxembourg and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science.

Prior to that, from 2015 to 2017, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical/Space Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Earlier, from 2010 to 2014, Sean completed their Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science, also at the University of Colorado Boulder.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Sean obtained a certification in Security + from CompTIA in October 2014.
