Jim Karkanias

Jim Karkanias is currently the Chief Executive Officer at cogitech.ai, a software and hardware company focused on applying biologically inspired computing to the generative AI space. Jim is responsible for creating an information ecosystem of smart processes, hardware, and AI-driven augmentation to improve complex workloads for customers in various industries.

Prior to their current role, Jim served as a Member of the Board of Directors at OmniTier Inc. and Chairman of the Board at Canary Medical Inc. Jim also founded IOTA Engineering, Inc., a company specializing in internet of things technology, and COSBI.

Jim has held positions on the Board of Directors at the Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association (WBBA) and StatOS, Inc., where they were involved in integrating the platform with existing hospital systems to address the skill shortage in healthcare through automation.

In addition, Jim has worked as an Advisor at Gaia Platform and ImageSleuth, where they provided insights and guidance for their respective projects.

Jim also has experience at Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, where they served as the CTO and later as the VP of Data Science.

Jim Karkanias earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Neurobiology and Behavior from Rutgers University, where they studied from 1982 to 1986. Jim then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University from 1991 to 1993. In the same time period, they also earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania.
