Amy Janssen Smith

Amy Janssen Smith serves as the Deputy Communications Director at the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship since November 2022. Amy has been the President of WordSmith Communications since 2005 and has held various roles in communications, including Communications Advisor at Wixted & Company from 2017 to 2019, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the YMCA of Greater Des Moines from 2015 to 2016, and Corporate Communications Manager at Hy-Vee, Inc. from 2014 to 2015. Additionally, Amy served as Communications Director at both Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity (2013-2014) and ChildServe (2003-2006). Earlier in the career, Amy worked as a Public Affairs Specialist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service from 1993 to 2003. Amy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Central College.
