Shawn Blaesing

Shawn Blaesing, GISP, has extensive experience in geospatial information systems with a focus on transportation and asset management. Currently serving as the GIS Coordinator for the Iowa Department of Transportation since September 2009, Shawn supports the Maintenance Bureau's geospatial and database needs while emphasizing technology delivery to field staff. Involved with the GIS for Transportation Symposium since 2010, Shawn has held various roles including Program Chair and Local Host. As CoChair for the GIS for Strategic Asset Management Group from 2010 to 2017, Shawn facilitated collaboration among public sector employees. Prior roles include database support with USDA-ARS and multiple GIS positions with the Washington State Department of Transportation, Washington State Senate, and Washington State University. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Soil Science from Washington State University and a certification in IT Project Management from the University of Washington.
