Sindhuja also analyzed non-coding RNA-seq datasets to study DNA breakage and repair in genome rearrangement.

Before their time at Columbia University, Sindhuja held multiple positions at the University of Maryland. From 2018 to 2019, they served as a Postdoctoral Associate, conducting genetic studies in the nematode C. elegans. Sindhuja focused on intercellular movement of double-stranded RNA and its transgenerational effects. From 2012 to 2018, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant, independently designing and executing genetic studies. Sindhuja also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, teaching biology and molecular and cell biology techniques to undergraduate students. Additionally, Sindhuja was a Graduate Research Assistant in the Kan Cao Lab, investigating mitochondrial ROS and ATP production in progeria/iPS cells.

Their earlier experiences include working as a Laboratory Technician at the UAE Genetic Diseases Association from 2010 to 2011, where they performed genomic DNA extractions and genotyped for genetic blood diseases. Sindhuja also worked as a Project Trainee at Hetero Drugs Ltd in 2010, studying the role of analytics in the pharmaceutical drug development process. Sindhuja started their career as a Laboratory Assistant at the UAE Genetic Diseases Association in 2009, where they used molecular biology techniques to genotype patients for genetic blood disorders and raise awareness about the consequences of these conditions. Sindhuja also worked as a Clinical Laboratory Trainee at the Canadian Specialist Hospital in 2008, performing clinical and diagnostic microbiological and immunological tests.

Throughout their career, Sindhuja Devanapally, PhD, has demonstrated a strong background in genetics, molecular biology, and pharmaceutical research, along with expertise in laboratory techniques and teaching.

Sindhuja Devanapally, PhD, completed their doctoral degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland, where they studied from 2011 to 2018. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology from Amity University, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. Sindhuja completed their high school education at Ivy League Academy in Hyderabad, India from 2002 to 2006. In addition to their formal education, they have obtained certifications in various subjects, including "The Data Science of Healthcare, Medicine, and Public Health" from LinkedIn in December 2022, "Project Initiation: Starting a Successful Project" from Coursera | Google in November 2021, and "Foundations of Project Management" from Coursera | Google in October 2021. Sindhuja also engaged in further learning through the edX platform, specifically completing "The Postdoc Academy: Building Skills for a Successful Career" in 2021.
