Allen Martin held multiple positions at Johnson Controls, Inc., primarily within the Power Solutions unit in the following capacities. From 2012 to 2013, he was Vice President/General Manager, Global Aftermarket Business, where Allen established and built a global management team and growth strategy for the automotive aftermarket battery business, with emphasis on emerging market growth. The scope of this position included revenue of $4.3 billion, 38 plants and 12 direct reports. Mr. Martin also spearheaded the growth initiative to align China operations with best practice strategies, establishing a business model to provide market clarity, and finally establish distribution channels and improve profitability.
During this time Mr. Martin developed JCI’s Product Management vision, providing a roadmap to reduce sku's by 40%, generate savings over $140 million, streamline operations, reduce capital spending, and expedite speed to market. From 2009 to 2012, he was Vice President/General Manager for North and South America. Allen oversaw JCI’s lead-acid and recycling business, including sales and plant operations for over 8,600 employees, 27 plant locations and 15 direct reports. The lead-acid automotive and advanced batteries supported Start-Stop, hybrid, and traditional vehicles for major automakers and aftermarket retailers. In this position Allen propelled earnings 180% from $418 to $750 million, increased sales from $2.5 billion to $3.5 billion and increased ROS from 16.6% to 21.4% through (but not limited to); analyzing NA battery business and implementing innovative and enhanced products, value pricing approaches and cross-functional teams that identified growth opportunities and improved business focus.
Allen also oversaw the establishment of JCI’s joint venture with a leading Colombian battery manufacturer to expand the company’s footprint in South America. Allen also managed the JCI effort that resulted in 100% of Wal-Mart’s battery business and served as sole source category manager. Allen further managed $350 million annual capital expenditure budget to expand existing plants and build new plants in support of corporate growth objectives.
