Averil Power

Averil Power serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Cancer Society since January 2018, leading Ireland’s national cancer charity and fostering a community of patients, survivors, and professionals. Previously, Averil held the same title at the Asthma Society of Ireland from August 2016 to December 2017, focusing on improving patient outcomes through education. A significant political career includes serving as a Senator from April 2011 to April 2016, recognized for advocacy and policy development. Averil's earlier roles include positions as a Policy Adviser in multiple governmental departments and as Research Assistant to the Government Chief Whip. In academia, Averil was the elected President of the Trinity College Students Union and has held advisory roles related to education and child services. Educational qualifications include a BA from Trinity College Dublin, a Diploma in Legal Studies, and a Barrister at Law Degree from the Honorable Society of King's Inns, among others.
