Kalungi Frank is a Research Fellow at the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), focusing on developing viable banana genotypes through gene editing technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9. In addition, Kalungi serves as a Founding Member and Senior Biotechnologist at Bioactives Initiative Africa, responsible for recruiting members, developing research proposals, publishing scientific research, and maintaining the organization's website. As a Graduate Researcher at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Kalungi is also engaged in creating CRISPR/Cas9 constructs for banana improvement. Previous experience includes roles as a Quality Control Microbiologist at Abacus Parenteral Drugs Limited and a Bioprocess Engineer at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa. Kalungi holds a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Makerere University and is working towards a Master of Science in Biochemistry at the same institution, alongside several other qualifications in leadership, genomics, and pharmacology from various prestigious institutions.
