Maha Hilal, PhD, is a distinguished leader in social justice and advocacy, currently serving as the Founder and Executive Director of the Muslim Counterpublics Lab since March 2022. With extensive experience in nonprofit organizations, Maha Hilal has held key roles including Content and Editorial Manager at the Islamic Scholarship Fund and Co-Director of the Justice for Muslim Collective, where training on institutionalized Islamophobia was a focus. Maha Hilal's work spans research, political education, and outreach, highlighted by positions as a Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and Executive Director of the National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms Foundation. Additionally, Maha Hilal has contributed to academia as an adjunct professor at both the University of the District of Columbia and George Mason University. Education credentials include a PhD in Justice, Law, and Society from American University and advanced degrees in Counseling and Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
