John Harper started their work experience in 2000 at Capital Health after completing a diploma in Application Management and Information Technology from UVIC. John held various positions in IT at Island Health without any breaks. Their first full-time role was as a contractor overseeing the build and implementation of the first enterprise-wide solution for public health after the provincial amalgamation of Health Authorities. This solution is still in use today. In 2019, they joined Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority as a Project Director.
John Harper attended Camosun College from 1983-1984, where they completed a College/University Preparatory and Advanced High School/Secondary Diploma Program. John then attended The University of British Columbia from 1985-1987, studying Biochemistry. In 1997-1998, John pursued an Electrical Pre-Apprentice Program at Camosun College. Finally, in 1999-2000, they attended the University of Victoria, focusing on Computer/Information Technology Administration and Management.
