Isle of Wight County Schools dedicates its efforts to create a learning environment that will enable every child to discover his or her unique gifts and talents.   Through this vision, Isle of Wight County Schools is committed to preparing approximately 5,600 students in all nine of its schools to be college, career, and life ready.
Isle of Wight County has two high schools, Smithfield High and Windsor High, which are located about 20 miles apart and serve county students in grades 9-12. Smithfield Middle School (grades 7-8), adjacent to Smithfield High, and Georgie D. Tyler Middle School (grades 6-8), several blocks away from Windsor High, serve the county’s middle school population. Carrsville Elementary School and Windsor Elementary School, in the southern portion of Isle of Wight, enroll students in grades K-5. Carrollton Elementary and Hardy Elementary, in the northern end of the county, house grades K-3 and K-4 respectively. Westside Elementary, in the town of Smithfield, serves students in grades 4-6.

Isle of Wight County Schools employs over 400 teachers who are certified and meet “Highly Qualified” status as determined by the state and federal government. 55 percent of all IWCS teachers have been awarded a master’s degree or higher.  In addition, 60% of all school division employees make Isle of Wight County their home.

Teachers are involved in professional development with an emphasis on deeper learning in order to provide performance based learning opportunities for students.  Instructional coaches are assigned to schools throughout the division to support teachers with implementing deeper learning experiences in their classrooms.

Isle of Wight County Schools focuses on a school culture that helps each student develop their own unique gifts and talents. The school division values student and teacher voice and choice.

The Information Technology Team at Isle of Wight County Schools is responsible for managing and supporting the school's technological infrastructure to enhance the learning environment. This team ensures the efficient operation of networks, data systems, and educational technologies, while providing technical support and training for staff and students. Their goal is to empower educators with the tools needed for innovative teaching practices, thereby promoting a seamless integration of technology into the educational experience.
