Davide Bassi (DB) graduated in Physics at the University of Genoa in 1971, discussing a thesis (under the supervision of Fernando Tommasini and Giacinto Scoles) in which the first evidence of “orbiting” collisions between atoms was shown. Early in his scientific career, DB got a NATO fellowship for the development of cryogenics infrared detectors. In 1975, DB joined the University of Trento where he set up a new Molecular Beam Laboratory.
