John Newton

Head Of Product Safety & Compliance at ITM Power

John Newton has a diverse work experience in various companies and industries. John started their career as a Team Leader in Membrane Technologies at Innogy Technology Ventures, where they led research, development, and manufacturing efforts in perfluorinated fuel cell membranes. John then became a Team Leader for Fuel Cell Systems at Regenesys (RWE Innogy), managing teams in the UK and US for developing proton exchange membrane fuel cell components.

Afterwards, they joined Regenesys (RWE npower) as a Team Leader for Materials Technology, where they directed a team of specialists, solved materials problems, and developed technology solutions for the UK demonstration plant. John later became a Senior Commercial Manager at RWE Power International, responsible for business development and selling operational IT products and services to utility customers.

John then moved to RWE npower as the Head of IT Generation & Corporate, where they managed IT services for RWE npower's Generation business and UK Corporate functions. John was accountable for the IT supplier's delivery and managed the IT budget and portfolio.

In 2012, they joined ITM Power (LSE: ITM.L) as an Interim Operations Manager, then became a Business Development Manager, and eventually served as the MD of ITM Motive Ltd. John also worked as a Freelance Writer throughout their career.

Their most recent role was at ITM Power as the Head of Product Compliance & Validation, overseeing product compliance and validation processes. John also managed two major projects: REFHYNE, responsible for building a PEM REFHYNE electrolyser at the Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH Rheinland Refinery, and HyDeploy, participating in the Ofgem funded project to complete a 0.5MW HyDeploy electrolyser.

Overall, John Newton has had extensive experience in project management, business development, IT management, and technical leadership roles.

John Newton obtained their BSc.(Hons) in Combined Sciences from Staffordshire University from 1985 to 1988. John then pursued an MSc. in Industrial Mineralogy at Hull University from 1988 to 1989. After that, they attended Sheffield University from 1989 to 1993, where they completed their PhD in Materials Science.
