Kapila Gunarathne is a seasoned environmental professional currently serving as Senior Program Manager for the Sri Lanka Coral Reef Initiative (SLCRI) at IUCN SL, starting in August 2024. This initiative aims to protect critical coral reef seascapes in Sri Lanka through collaborative and sustainable approaches. Kapila has extensive experience as Executive Director at Green Planet Eco-Consultant since January 2019 and has held multiple roles at IUCN, including National Coordinator for Mangroves for the Future (MFF) since April 2018 and Head of Coastal Livelihood and Policy at IUCN NL from September 2007 to November 2012. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Ecology with a focus on Ecosystem Analysis and Governance from the University of Warwick and a Bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Peradeniya.
