Gert Markwardt has over 20 years of experience in software engineering and management roles in the telecommunications industry. Gert currently serves as a Software Engineering Team Lead at IVU Traffic Technologies. From 2011 to 2021, they worked at IBM Deutschland Research & Development GmbH as a Software Engineering Manager, leading a team in developing Telco domain enhancements for IBM's stream computing and real-time analytics software platform. Before that, from 2007 to 2011, they held the role of Software Engineering Manager at IBM Deutschland Network Development GmbH, managing long-term projects with Nokia Siemens Networks and guiding the transformation of international teams to agile development. Gert also worked briefly as a Software Architect at Nokia Siemens Networks in 2007. Prior to that, Gert worked at Siemens from 1997 to 2007, serving as a Software Architect in UMTS Core Network and as a Software Engineer in Intelligent Networks, where they developed value-added services and contributed to international standards. Gert began their career as a Research Associate in Computer Architecture at Technische Universität Dresden from 1993 to 1996.
Gert Markwardt obtained their Ph.D. in Computer Science from Technische Universität Dresden, for the years 1993 to 1998. Prior to that, they completed their Diplom-Informatiker degree in Computer Science at the same university from 1988 to 1993. Additionally, Gert has pursued various certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge in different areas. Some of these certifications include "Introduction to Containers w/ Docker, Kubernetes & OpenShift" from Coursera in March 2021, "Docker Essentials: A Developer Introduction" from IBM in February 2021, "Python for Data Science and AI" from Coursera in February 2021, "Winning the Platform - Cloud Pak for Data" from IBM in April 2020, and "IBM Watson Data Platform - Sales Foundations" from IBM in May 2017.
