Over the past decade, I built a career across academia, research and industry, earning a PhD and working in professional roles across the UK and internationally.

I followed the traditional path: work hard, build a respected career, earn a steady salary and trust that one job would provide long-term security.

That belief changed in 2024.

A difficult workplace dynamic, increased pressure and blocked opportunities showed me how quickly a career can be affected by circumstances outside your control. No matter how qualified, experienced or committed you are, one person or one political decision can put years of work at risk.

I realised that if my financial security depended on one employer, one salary and one person’s opinion of me, I was not truly secure.

So I decided to build another source of income before I needed it.

I spent the rest of 2024 learning the foundations of business and putting the legal and operational structure in place. In March 2025, while still employed, I launched the first product from a direct-to-consumer kitchen brand.

I had no previous business experience, special connections or guarantee that it would work. I simply applied the discipline, problem-solving and strategic thinking I had developed throughout my career.

By August 2025, the business was strong enough for me to leave my £60,000 job by choice, not desperation. Within 12 months of launch, it generated £500,000 in revenue.

The sequence matters more than the number:

Build first. Leave second. Choose third.

Today, I share what I learned with employed professionals who want to build parallel income without taking unnecessary risks.

My goal is simple: to help people create more control over their income, time and future, so work becomes a choice, not a trap.
