Houck Brian serves as the Grounds and Gardens Director at J. Paul Getty Trust since August 2015, overseeing an expansive public garden space of over 800 acres, managing a team of 40+ staff and extensive contractor support. Previously, Houck held the position of Director of Horticulture at Lincoln Park Zoo from 2009 to 2015 and was a Floriculturist I at Chicago Park District from 2006 to 2010. Additional experience includes positions at California State University Northridge as an Instructional Support Technician and various roles in horticulture at Armstrong Garden Centers, Longwood Gardens, U.C. Davis Botany Department, and Calgene Inc. Houck is actively involved with the American Public Gardens Association as a member of the Editorial Advisory Group for Public Garden Magazine. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
